Roofing Installation & Repairs

Your roof protects your home from rain, wind, snow, sun, pests, and moisture damage.

A properly installed roof does more than keep water out. It protects the structure of the home, helps control energy costs, and prevents small leaks from becoming expensive repairs.

Here in Northeast Tennessee, roofs have to stand up to heavy rain, strong winds, winter weather, summer heat, falling branches, and years of expansion and contraction. Whether you need a roof repair, a full roof replacement, or help deciding between shingles and metal roofing, Alliance Home Improvements can help you choose the right solution for your home.

Asphalt shingles remain one of the most popular roofing materials because they are affordable, attractive, and available in many colors and styles. Standard architectural shingles are thicker and more dimensional than older three-tab shingles, giving the roof a more finished appearance and better durability. Premium shingles can provide improved wind resistance, algae resistance, and a heavier, more substantial look.

Metal roofing is another excellent choice for many homes in this region. Metal roofs are long lasting, low maintenance, and very good at shedding rain and snow. Common metal roofing options include exposed fastener panels, standing seam metal roofing, and metal shingles. Exposed fastener metal roofing is often a cost-effective choice for homes, porches, barns, sheds, and outbuildings. Standing seam metal roofing has hidden fasteners and a clean, modern appearance, making it a premium option for homeowners who want longer life and a sharper finished look. Metal shingles can provide the durability of metal while creating a more traditional roof appearance.

Standing seam metal roofs are appropriate for very low pitched roof surfaces where ashphalt shingles are not.

Traditional three tab shingles are typically lighter duty, with a shorter warranty, and are more prone to damage.

A roof is only as good as the installation underneath the surface. Proper roofing starts with a solid roof deck. Damaged, soft, or rotten decking should be replaced before new roofing is installed. Underlayment, flashing, drip edge, valleys, pipe boots, and ventilation all need to be handled correctly. These details are what keep water from sneaking behind the roof covering and damaging the framing, ceilings, insulation, and walls.

Flashing is especially important around chimneys, walls, skylights, valleys, and roof transitions. Many roof leaks are not caused by the shingles or metal panels themselves, but by poor flashing, worn pipe boots, missing sealant, loose fasteners, or improper installation at roof penetrations. A good roof repair means finding the real source of the leak, not just smearing caulk over the first wet spot.

Proper ventilation also matters. A roof needs balanced intake and exhaust ventilation to help reduce heat and moisture buildup in the attic. Poor ventilation can shorten the life of shingles, contribute to condensation, increase cooling costs, and create conditions that lead to mold or wood damage. Ridge vents, soffit vents, gable vents, and other ventilation methods should be considered as part of the complete roofing system.

For shingle roofs, correct installation includes proper starter strips, correct nail placement, clean valley work, adequate overlap, and attention to manufacturer specifications. For metal roofs, proper installation includes straight panel layout, correct screw placement, suitable closures, clean trim work, proper flashing, and allowing for expansion and contraction. These details help the roof perform as intended through years of weather.
